matthews in washington. let me start with mr. romney's divorce. why did he pick paul ryan for his running mate? certainly not for better or worse. mitt spends his days and nights acting as if he's out there all alone, that he never hooked up with ryan if the first place. i get it. romney doesn't want to get dragged down by his political mate's push for getting rid of medicare. he acts like ryan has no hold on him, but it's not the way it works. romney has slowly gotten the word that the voter out there thought the two had things worked out, that romney and ryan were in this thing together. well, they're not. romney is dying. he can't stand being tied to ryan, and all that budget cutting baggage of his. for his part, ryan is feeling the taint of having a running mate who is unwilling to stand with him, unwilling to be his kind of politician. a conviction politician. so trouble in paradise. mitt's dying to be single again, so is ryan. we all know that politics makes strange bedfellows but the word is out this pair, romney and ryan, are sleeping in separate rooms. i'm joined by msnbc

following, virtually every time mr. romney spoke, he misrepresented the platform on which he and paul ryan are actually running. that's quite a statement. and a new york magazine jonathan challenged romney over his economic plan that seems to rely on some magical numbers and thinking, quote, so romney is a candidate of a 20% cut in tax rates, a new plan to cover people with pre-existing conditions and higher defense spending and he will accomplish it all by eliminating federal funding for pbs. the question is can obama and his team win the post debate debate by highlighting some of this nonsense and romney's fuzzy language? willy brown is the former mayor of san francisco, former speaker of the house out there. joan walsh is editor at large or salon and the author of "what's the mat we are white people." i want to get to these points. can you win on the fact having lost perhaps on performance value? >> it's very, very difficult to get people in the world observing politicians to overcome to the substance. they always go for style. they always are influenced by performances, and i beli

that whole thing down. >> they tried to shut him down. republicans from mitt romney and paul ryan to sarah palin, sean hannity, and rush limbaugh all urged akin to get out of the race after he said that. karl rove's american crossroads super pac pulled their money from him and while talking to donors, rove made this, his think being what akin was doing to the party crystal clear. he said we should sink todd akin. if he's found mysteriously murdered don't look for my whereabouts. that's karl. the national republican senate committee also pulled funds from akin's race. its chairman, john cornyn of texas, said last week, just last week, he had a simple answer on their involvement with akin going forward. he told "the hill" newspaper, quote, we're done. well, that was then, this is now. the deadline for akin to remove himself from the ballot has passed, and slowly republicans are rejoining the akin bandwagon, if you can call it that. the national republican senate committee, for example, said yesterday, as with every republican senate candidate, we hope todd akin wins in november, and we
